Heather Kuhlken first developed a passion for photography while studying marine mammals in Baja, Mexico as a junior in college studying abroad with the School for Field Studies. She enrolled in photography upon returning to Rice University for her senior year and has been avidly taking photos ever since. She has photographed underwater life, children and families, marine mammals, wildflowers, landscapes, wildlife around the world, and most recently vineyards and grapes for the family’s winery, Pedernales Cellars. Her work can be seen on several websites as well as in the tasting room gallery. She uses her photos to teach biology, ecology and oceanography, to promote getting children outside with Austin Families in Nature (an outdoor education program that she runs), and to share the beauty of nature with others. |
